Dalam dua kali kunjungannya ke Garut yaitu pada tahun 1928 dan 1933, aktor terkenal Charlie Chaplin menyebutkan bahwa Garut Swissnya di Jawa, sehingga beliau menyebutnya "Swiss van Java".
